Gilbert is a town nestled in Maricopa County, and although it is large and is growing at a rapid rate, Gilbert is still classified as a town rather than a city. It has the highest population of any area incorporated as a town in the entire United States and in the year 2000 census the town contained more than 100,000 residents. Gilbert is also the fastest-growing place among all cities and towns in Arizona of any size.
What is most surprising about a town this size is that there have been few life-threatening dangers in the city. According to the FBI database, Gilbert was the largest 'city' in 2005 with zero murders.
